Recipe: Easy No-Fail Amish White Bread
This is a family favorite homemade bread recipe. It is Super-Easy and has never failed us. Try it! You will not be disappointed.
Ingredients:
2 CUPS OF WARM WATER (APPROX. 110 DEGREES F/45 DEGREES C)
2/3 CUP WHITE SUGAR
1 1/2 TBSP OF ACTIVE DRY YEAST
6 CUPS OF BREAD FLOUR
1/4 CUP OF VEGETABLE OIL
1 1/2 TSP SALT
Directions:
- ADD THE WATER AND SUGAR TO A LARGE BOWL. ONCE THE SUGAR HAS DISSOLVED ADD THE YEAST. ALLOW TO PROOF UNTIL THE YEAST BECOMES FOAMY. (APPROX. 10 MINUTES)
- ADD THE SALT AND OIL TO THE YEAST MIXTURE AND STIR. STIR IN ONE CUP OF FLOUR AT A TIME. (USING A STAND MIXER AND DOUGH HOOK MAKES THIS PROCESS MUCH EASIER)
- KNEAD THE DOUGH ON A LIGHTLY FLOURED SURFACE UNTIL SMOOTH. PLACE THE DOUGH IN A WELL OILED BOWL AND TURN TO COAT. COVER WITH A DAMP CLOTH AND ALLOW THE DOUGH TO RISE IN A WARM PLACE UNTIL DOUBLED IN SIZE (ABOUT ONE HOUR).
- PUNCH DOWN, KNEAD FOR A FEW MINUTES. ROLL THE DOUGH OUT LENGTHWISE AND THEN DIVIDE THE DOUGH IN HALF.
- SHAPE EACH HALF OF THE DOUGH INTO A LOAF AND PLACE IN TWO WELL OILED 9×5 BREAD PANS. COVER WITH DAMP CLOTH AND LET THE DOUGH RISE UNTIL IT IS ABOUT INCH OVER THE TOP OF THE PANS. (ABOUT 30 MINUTES)
- BAKE AT 350 DEGREES F (175 DEGREES C) FOR 30 MINUTES.
